And then i woke up
Im not sure why i named this post "and then i woke up" as that has nothing to do with what im gonna be talking about probably, although i cant say that with complete certainty as i also dont have a plan for what ill be talking about...
Fair warning, if youre a fan of star vs. The forces of evil, or the amazing world of gumball, but you havent gotten that far into it, this post does contain spoilers.
Im gonna start by saying that i really really like that tom and marco become friends in star vs. The forces of evil, i think thats really cool and sweet, #bestfriends <3
But i hate that star and marco end up dating. I find it a little annoying that shows always have to make friends who are the opposite gender date. Like marco had jackie, star had tom, but noooo, they just had to end up together because... i dunno. Theyre a boy and a girl who are best friends, and guess thats just not possible?
I know it was hinted at throughout the entire show, its not like its new, but like... the trope just bothers me. I feel like TV tends to contribute to our views on the world, especially at a young age, and its things like that that make it seem like boys and girls cant be just friends? I know i dont need to read into it this much, but im going to anyway. Get over it.
I mean because tv seems to portray men and women as if theyre completely different species, and parents who ask you "are you guys dating?" Or "do you have a crush on them?" Whenever you refer to a friend whos the opposite gender do not help shit.
I mean idk i have a very rigid opinion on gender norms, but like... girls arent always nail painting, giggling, boy crazy, two dimensional caracatures, and guys arent always rough housing, farting, lying about the women theyve fingered idiots.
At least they dont have to be. But painting them that way only furthers the devide between men and women, and between the self and expectations, and between reality vs. Perception.
Like because i personally have no fucking idea what other genders do in their free time so i always picture whatever ive seen on tv?
But maybe thats just a me thing.
But i like cartoons that dont contribute to that. I mean star vs. The forces of evil does do some things right i feel. Like janna says her favorite color is pink but she lies about it because she doesnt like contributing to gender stereotypes and i fuck with that.
And dont even get me started on the fact that star is like... a sttrrong ass motherfucked in a pretty dress. Like she is seriously cool as fuck, because she alternates between "girly" girl who drools over boys, and is made of sugar and spice, and a fucking baddass who effortlessly fights monsters and takes risks and gets her hands dirty cause shes bored, and that is how women should be portrayed! As multifaceted that is, not neccessarily as either of those two specific things. Like theyre not all the same.
The loud house is kinda cool that way, but were not talking about that right now.
Like i said in my last post, if youve read it, is that i tend to overanalyze cartoons a bit. I mean... im sure a lot of them are meant to be more fun or relatable to kids than to actually teach them something or influence them a certain way, but then again, i think assuming that would be assuming the creators of that show are at least a tad stupid, because kids are influenced by just about everything, theyre in their learning era, and what better to learn from than a magical princess???
Its not like i think my opinion is the only right one, or that TV rots your brain or something, This is just something i think about way too much.
Anyway something i do want to point out that happens irl, is the whole "boys will be boys" thing.
My mom phrases it like "boys never grow older than 12." Bigmouth phrases it like "boys are animals" And im sure there are many different variations of this same thing.
Its. All. Bullshit.
Giving men excuses to act like immature little shits is not the fucking solution!!!
I mean dont get me wrong. You dont have to act your age and that applies to both men and women. You can still do dumb things, you can eat ice cream for dinner and play on playgrounds (though tread lightly cause that can seem kinda creepy), or whatever people may consider "childish" (idrk, im kinda hermit.)
But if your a grown ass man throwing a trantrum, or a teenage boy getting distracted by shoulders, or legs, and then blaming them for dressing that way when the same rule doesnt have to apply to you, you do in fact, need to grow the fuck up.
In this case, if this is what boys do, boys actually should not be allowed to be boys.
Men should be growing past age 12, so should women, we shouldnt be tying dysfunction and predatory habits to masculinity, because we cant control gender, but we very much can control our actions and, to an extent, our thoughts.
Like i said, you can still do dumb shit, but you should not get to be given what you want because youre acting like a child about it.
You dont get to cheat on your girlfriends because youre a man and you need it.
You dont get to tell women what theyre allowed to wear because youre too imature to keep your eyes up. You should not have excuses to treat women like theyre just walking sex dolls.
You dont get to push your partner to their limits because... i dont even know why, and to be honest this goes back to another cartoon, because i base all my opinions on TV!
In the amazing world of gumball, richard is just a fucking asshole sometimes, and nicole waterson deserves so much better than that.
hes a lazy, irresponsible, assinine child, and, just as an example, the episode "the limit" really showcased that.
And then at the end nicole was like "its understandable that you guys would test limits sometimes" to the kids, and thats true, kids need to learn, but then she followed with "and most husbands test limits most of the time" or something like that, im paraphrasing, but my point it... that is a horrible message to be sending children, and exactly what im talking about with the whole "shows teaching kids some fucked up values" type of shit.
I respect the hell out nicole for keeping that whole family together and working as hard as she does, but i wish to god she respected herself more than that.
I really feel like your partners should respect and support you. Richard was not that kind of partner. Buuuut, maybe thats on her for having kids with him.
Dunno.
Lots of gray area.
Anyway, idk, i know i probably sound a tad hysterical, and im fine with that. Let me know, and i know youre gonna, if youve spotted any flaws in my logic, im all ears, except im also a lot of mouth, so if i have a retort, do understand i will be expressing that 👍
Thanks for reading my bullshit today. While i dont know you enough to tell i love you, im sure some of you are very lovable.
Clearly bitchless for obvious reasons, Bill <3
Ps. Remember to eat your vegatables, and listen to your mom, they usually have your best interest at heart.
